How would your world change if you woke up tomorrow morning and you were content with what you had? Or more importantly what if you woke up tomorrow morning and you were content with what you had but not with what you were giving away? How would that change your world? The “Prosperity Gospel” claims that we should exercise faith in getting what we want. The “good news” being that God gives to those who believe and if you don’t have what you want it is because you haven’t exercised faith as you should. But even the examples that are given are laughable. Jesus said that if you have faith the size of a mustard seed you can say to this mountain, “be caste into the sea” and if you believe it will be done. Is that an example of getting what you want from God? Prosperity preachers claim it is. The mountain may be bad credit or a poor paying job they say. Well it certainly doesn’t sound like a way to aquire things, it sounds like a way to destroy something. Casting a mountain into the sea is not the same as getting a big home, the latest giant screen TV or a new BMW. What is this “mountain moving faith” that Jesus is talking about? It is about removing the obstacles that keep you from doing the will of God, living by faith. It is a way to get to the work of ministry in the lives of people. It is about being able to pour out your life for others and to experience the truth of Jesus words, “It is more blessed to give than receive.” It is about removing the obstacle to experiencing the freedom Paul described as “no longer living for yourself.” Now that would be moving a mountain!
