Faithful Men-
Join us for Monday morning prayer gathering at the Church from 9:00-10am for a time of fellowship and prayer for our church family, our church leaders, our community, state and federal leaders.
God has called Christian men to be watchmen. You have been given the responsibility to…
- Watch over your life and doctrine (1 Tim 4:16)
- Watch over your family (1 Tim 5:8; Deut 6.4-7)
- Watch over your church (Heb 3.12-13)
- Watch over your world (Matt 28.19-20)
The Men's Ministry at Calvary must exist to promote diligence in these responsibilities. Throughout the year we will host several morning and evening meetings as well as a retreat devoted to instructing and encouraging one another in these important biblical responsibilities.
We have been instructed to "be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer" (1 Pet 4:7), to "prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1Pet 1:13) and to "be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil" (Eph 6:10-11). All of this is designed to keep us ready and capable of fulfilling our calling as "watchmen" for our family, church and community. It is easy to become "flaky overgrown boys" who pursue every wandering desire with enthusiasm but never learn to seriously pursue the Son of Man who was so committed and courageous He laid down his life to save us from our sins.
Too many men look to their wives to be the spiritual leaders in their homes rather than practice "due diligence" in spiritual things so that they can become the shepherds God has called and will equip them to be. Every Christian man has the Holy Spirit of God residing in him and that is why the Word declares "greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).
Paul told Titus that he must "speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience… Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you" (Titus 2:1, 2, 6-8).
God has called Christian men to become experts in the gospel and how to live according to it in their every day lives. Learning to apply the Gospel to all of life is necessary if we are to fulfill the calling that has been given to us by our Lord and King.
Praying for Vigilant Watchmen,
