Acts 2:22-36 Gospel Certainties

November 3, 2013 Series: The Book of Acts

Topic: Acts Passage: Acts 2:22–2:36

Gospel Certainties

Acts 2:22-36 In Gal 3:8

Paul says that the Gospel was preached to Abraham when God said to him, “ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU” (Gen 12:3) But now Peter can proclaim the gospel from the perspective of the Messiah’s resurrection and living presence with his people! This first of many apostolic sermons recorded in Acts shows how the focus of the apostolic proclamation was on Jesus of Nazareth, mankind’s Lord and Israel’s Messiah. As we look at this I’d like to take note of three Gospel certainties (Glorious truths & implications of the gospel).

I. The Sovereign God Is In Control (22-24) The Gospel tells what God has done! Then it calls us to respond to what He has done: repentance & faith.

II. His Faithful Word Is Always True (25-28) The Gospel events are the fulfillment of God’s Word.

III. Our Glorious Savior Gives Abundant Grace (29-36) The Gospel reveals that Jesus is now in a position to be pouring out His gifts of grace on His people everywhere.

As a result of the resurrection and exaltation of Jesus to the Right Hand of the Father he is now positioned to be continually pouring out His gifts of grace on His people everywhere. You must position yourself in the place where the glory is poured out.

Look at the description of the mindset of the flesh and mindset of the Spirit in Rom 8:6. Looking at reality from the feet of Jesus seated on the throne or looking at reality from the throne of your little universe changes everything.

Romans 10:8-11

“...the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “ WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.”
